Position Summary:
The Library and Archives Paraprofessional 4 (LAPP4) for the Library at Seattle Central College is a full-time 12-month classified position that participates in a strong collaborative library team focused on providing student-centered library services to a diverse college community.

The LAPP4 responsible for all aspects of library acquisitions: performing complex technical library tasks and problem solving to place orders, managing budgets, and maintaining bibliographic records for all Seattle Central libraries.Tasks include training hourly and student workers, developing acquisitions procedures and policy, and maintaining library collections statistics. This position also performs assigned work in the areas of library services, circulation, periodicals, interlibrary loan, and reserves.

Essential Functions:
Library Acquisitions and Collections Responsibilities
  • Oversee and participate in ordering, receiving, processing, and withdrawal for library acquisitions in all formats and maintain accurate records and statistics for all collections.
  • Perform cataloging and update information in library catalog records according to established cataloging rules.
  • Manage library acquisitions in the integrated library system, including tracking allocations and expenditures in multiple budgets; coordinating material selections with library faculty; placing and processing orders; generating purchase orders; withdrawing items; and preparing statistical and other collection reports.
  • Maintain a high level of skill and awareness with the integrated library system and manages configurations and training for this system.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time acquisitions staff; manage budget for part-time acquisitions staff.
  • Establish, monitor, plan and evaluate workflows for areas of responsibility.
  • Create and maintain acquisitions procedures to adhere to established policies. Interpret policies and assist in developing policies as needed.
  • Coordinate with the work of other areas of the library and the college to deliver responsive library services. Serve on college and district committees as needed to represent the library.
  • Withdraw and discard items identified by professional staff as not needed for collection; reinstate and relocate materials. Coordinate book sales and disposal or recycling of library materials.
Additional Duties
  • Communicate with library staff to resolve technical or circulation questions.
  • Participate in regular operations of library public services, including circulation services, safety and security and opening and closing procedures.
  • Assist library users with recurring quick information and routine questions on general subjects and in the use of basic bibliographic tools; refer library users to appropriate college employees for other services.
  • Contribute to library-wide activities and planning to promote inclusion and equity in library services provide student-centered service.
  • May supervise or coordinate library services at satellite library locations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • High school graduation AND Three (3) years of technical services experience in a library within the last 5 years, including one year of library supervisory experience.
  • At least one year of public service experience in a library setting.
  • Excellent public service skills and ability to work well with a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to understand and explain complex technical issues and user questions in person and in writing.
  • Proficiency in using an integrated library system such as ExLibris Alma and standard office productivity applications, including email, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive and effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community
