Hourly Rate or Monthly Salary: Starting at $5,236.25 per month

Working Hours: One regular, full-time position, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, on the Oceanside campus. The work schedule will be Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

Basic Function and Other Details:
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, perform heating, ventilation and air conditioning installation, repair and maintenance work; maintain indoor environment comfortable for staff and students; and perform related work as required.

Representative Duties:
(E = essential job function)

1. Inspect, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, adjust and regulate heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment including heat pumps, heating and ventilating units, air conditioning with gas or electric heat, reciprocating chillers, multi-zone units, hot water heating boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, return and exhaust fans, air compressors, variable air volume systems, refrigerators, and ice makers. (E)

2. Replace valves, fans, motors, gaskets, filters, belts, refrigerant oil, contactors, fuses, compressors, capacitors, bearings, sheaves, and actuators; use various testing devices to locate defective parts; pump down units with vacuum pump; use welding equipment to repair refrigeration lines; adjust RPM on motors and fans; check and adjust gas pressure on heating units. (E)

3. Adjust and install switches, gauges, thermostats, valves, tubing and other parts as needed; make pipe connections and repairs; troubleshoot and repair electrical components pertaining to heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment. (E)

4. Check and test new equipment before installation; calibrate pneumatic and electrical controls; calibrate, repair and replace thermostats; adjust, balance and redesign air flow through ducts, diffusers, and registers; set time clocks for heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; maintain chemical water treatment for cooling towers, hot and cold water systems and thermal energy storage systems; operate and adjust building electronic controls for temperature and scheduling control; initiate and implement preventive maintenance system including keeping various logs and records. 6. Make estimates of labor and material costs for jobs; research catalogs to locate materials and parts required for jobs; requisition, receive and store parts and materials; purchase parts and materials on open Purchase Orders; maintain records of time and materials. (E)

7. Assign and check the work of contractors assigned to specific projects; work from blueprints, schematics and rough sketches; plan and lay out work on assigned work orders; make rough sketches and working drawings. (E)

8. Operate the building controls energy management system. (E)

9. Care for and store tools and provide for security of tools, materials and equipment at the work site; assist other maintenance personnel by performing unskilled or semi-skilled duties.

10. Perform building maintenance related tasks as needed.

11. Perform related work as required.

Type of Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

1. An Associate's degree or the equivalent; AND

2. Four years of increasingly responsible journey-level HVAC maintenance and repair experience.

Desirable Qualifications:
1. Previous experience repairing HVAC plumbing systems and programming of HVAC Controls. 2. Previous experience in a student oriented setting.

Licenses and Other Requirements: 1. A Valid EPA-approved Section 608 Type I & Type II Refrigeration Certification. 2. A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance program.
