Job Details

Under the general supervision of the HVAC Supervisor, perform a variety of duties to install, maintain, operate, upgrade, diagnose and repair pneumatic, electric and electronic HVAC systems within the University. Ability to read, interpret and diagnose problems from work requests, blueprints, diagrams, verbal and written instructions to install and repair HVAC systems. Troubleshoot control systems. Repair A/C systems; make adjustments to damper actuators, valve actuators, repairs to thermostats.

Must be familiar with the operation of all standard mechanical system configurations, i.e., VAV, constant volume with or without reheat, etc. Must be familiar with DDC control systems. Should be familiar with water treatment of closed and open loop systems. Should have a working knowledge of steam systems. Should be familiar with chiller operations/cooling towers/pumps and associated equipment with a general proficiency in total building operations.

Position will require working in a non-mechanical capacity when necessary, as well as, but not limited to responding to overtime and emergency call-ins as required or directed to insure proper plant operations.

2ND SHIFT TIME: TUESDAY - SATURDAY, 2:00PM - 10:30PM

Qualifications:

Massachusetts Refrigeration license plus five years experience in a commercial/industrial setting. EPA universal certificate to handle refrigerants required. Familiarity with institutional and commercial HVAC systems. Must be able to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others. May use chain falls and come alongs for heavier lifting. Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment and other essentials to the job site. Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc. Must be able to work overtime as needed. Must be able to respond to emergency calls beyond the normal workday.

*Valid Massachusetts drivers license required.
*This position is 40 hours a week.
*This position requires a criminal background check.
*All University staff members must successfully complete a 90 day probationary period.
*HVAC Systems Technician is considered Essential Personnel. This is a condition of employment.
*40 hour work Hours: TBD
