Position Summary

South Seattle College's Aviation Maintenance Technology program is seeking a full-time, tenure track Faculty that will provide instruction in the FAA-regulated Aviation Maintenance Program. This position may teach during the day or the evening depending on the instructional needs of the program. The teaching requirement is currently for 6 hours of contact each day. Classes are offered each quarter for nine weeks.

Additional time may be required for student advising as well as campus and departmental activities and committees. Current hours of instruction are 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Instructional hours will depend on the schedule needed for coverage of the classes offered and the subjects taught.

What you will be working on:
  • Prepares for and instructs, through traditional classroom, laboratory, clinical and distance education modes, in the discipline of Aviation Maintenance; Assignments may be at off-campus locations and may also include evening and/or weekend classes.
  • Provides availability and accessibility to students for purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet student needs, through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility or other effective means of responsive and timely communication
  • Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback
  • Participates in district, division, department, or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; serves on district or college councils or committees, or other activities within the scope of the position
  • Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Current FAA Mechanic Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings
  • Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology or other related technical service field
  • Three (3) years' experience with both the Airframe and Powerplant mechanic certificate ratings as indicated by 14 CFR Part 65.83.
  • Candidates should have current work experience in General or Commercial Aviation and possess a broad base of experience that will enable delivery of current industry practices to the students enrolled in the program.
  • Experience teaching or training, and developing curriculum or learning materials, in an academic environment or workplace instructional role
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics
  • Demonstrates or explains how one would develop curriculum and deliver instruction in response to differences in individual experiences
  • Demonstrated proficiency using 21st century teaching technologies, including presentation and instructional software applications, and common courseware design programs
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, with or without the use of an interpreter and/or auxiliary aids
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective and contributing member of a team
