RESPONSIBILITIES: Nine-month Assistant Professor, Fish Biologist: The position requires a broadly-trained fish biologist with experience in long-term monitoring and large river research. The faculty member must be able to teach General Zoology, Ichthyology, Freshwater Biology, Mississippi River Ecology, Fisheries Management and Techniques, and Biostatistics. Ability to teach Aquatic Ecology is desirable. The position requires establishing an active research program involving Master's and undergraduate students that should be supported by grants and collaborate with external agencies or NGOs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
For tenure-track appointment, a PhD in Biology related field that is a broadly-trained fish biologist with experience in long-term monitoring and large river research. The faculty member must be able to teach General Zoology, Ichthyology, Freshwater Biology, Mississippi River Ecology, Fisheries Management and Techniques, and Biostatistics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates are preferred who have experience obtaining external funding in fish biology, post-doctoral experience, and evidence of training students on large river research projects, such as electroshock fish surveys. Teaching experience is preferred and ability to teach Aquatic Ecology is desirable. Experience in maintaining and operating boats is also desirable.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).

THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Biological Sciences offers majors in Biology (with options in Botany, Environmental Biology Medical Sciences, Microbiology, Teacher Certification, and Zoology) leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. There are approximately 425 undergraduate majors. Minors are also offered in Zoology, Botany, and Microbiology. The Department offers a Master of Science in Biology degree and currently has 90 graduate students; also available are Post Baccalaureate Certificates in Zoo and Aquarium Studies, and Environmental GIS. There are 20 full time faculty members and a full time academic advisor. The Department has the Alice L. Kibbe Life Science Station (www.wiu.edu/kibbe) located 45 miles west of campus on the Mississippi River as well as the Rodney and Bertha Fink Environmental Studies Field Laboratory and Conservancy located 2 miles from campus. The Department's mammal collection contains over 2000 specimens. WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 8,109): A traditional, residential four-year campus with select graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,332): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
