Brief Position Description: TheFellmeth Peterson Professor in Residence in Child Rightsis a multi-year faculty position (non-tenured) that combines teaching, supervision of clinical programs in the Children's Advocacy Institute, and policy advocacy.

Detailed Position Description: The Fellmeth Peterson Professor in Residence for Child Rights will be expected to 1) teach child and juvenile rights-related courses; 2) supervise upper level law students in clinical programs, including but not limited to the School of Law's Child Advocacy Clinic; 3) engage in child rights-related scholarship (academic articles, legal briefs, legislative/regulatory proposals, and empirical reports); and 4) engage in policy advocacy as part of the Children's Advocacy Institute at the School of Law. Periodic participation in law school service is also expected.

Candidates applying for the position must have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, have a license to practice law and be in good standing, and must have a demonstrated commitment to child advocacy.

Additional Details: The School of Law's Children's Advocacy Institute (CAI) is one of the nation's premiere academic, research, and advocacy organizations working to improve the lives of children and youth, with special emphasis on improving the child protection and foster care systems and enhancing resources that are available to youth aging out of foster care. In its academic component, CAI trains law students and attorneys to be effective child advocates throughout their legal careers. Its Child Advocacy Clinic gives USD Law students three distinct clinical opportunities to advocate on behalf of children and youth: dependency, delinquency, and policy. Active primarily at the federal and state levels, CAI's efforts are multi-faceted—comprehensively and successfully embracing all tools of public interest advocacy to improve the lives of children and youth.
