Position Summary
Big Bend Community College is establishing a pool of qualified individuals for part-time English instructors beginning Fall Quarter 2021. Classes may be taught in the afternoon, evenings, online, and/or weekends. Applications will be accepted continuously and will be used to determine interest for open positions that occur during the academic year.

Our Part-Time/Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $756.39/lecture credit.

This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in English. Courses may include; English 101 (English Composition 1) and English 102 (English Composition 2).

This position reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences and works closely with the Humanities Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the City of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job Duties
Primary essential functions and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with a full-time faculty member.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule.
  • Assist students with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Maintain frequent communication with their students.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
  • Post syllabi quarterly to the portal for each course taught.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in English or closely related field.
  • Previous experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching English at a community college within the previous three years.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience using innovative teaching techniques.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.

TEACHING DEMO:
