Position Summary
Big Bend Community College is establishing a pool of qualified individuals for Part-Time/Associate Faculty ESL/GED/HS+ Instructors beginning Fall Quarter 2021. Applications will be accepted continuously and will be used to determine interest for open positions that occur during the academic year.

This position will teach English as a Second Language (ESL), or reading, math, writing skills, and other high school credits required for graduation to adults who have minimal basic skills or do not have a high school diploma. Students may work toward learning English, a GED or if 18 years or older, a high school diploma (HS+). Positions are available in Othello, Quincy, and Mattawa with approximately 5-12 hours per week, days and/or evenings. These teaching positions are onsite face-to-face only. Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $756.39/per lecture credit.

This position reports to the Director of BEdA Programs and works closely with the Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities will will include, but not limited to the following:
  • Teach classes in accordance with BBCC and Washington State standards.
  • Develop lesson plans and conduct lectures.
  • Meet with students to develop individualized goal sheets every quarter. Follow-up with students regarding goals throughout the quarter.
  • Maintain daily student attendance records and submit on a weekly basis. At the end of the quarter, submit a complete attendance report with signature for the quarter.
  • Administer pre- & post-CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) test on all students enrolled in ABE or GED classes.
  • Assess student performance for accreditation report for submission to the Division Chair.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience working with non-English speaking adults.
  • Previous experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching English to non-native speakers.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.
