Basic Function/Overview:
This is a tenure-track, noncredit faculty position working primarily with students who have Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injuries and those with speech dysfluency in disability services' Accessible Technology Center.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

Provide academic and accessible technology support to DSPS students in general and DSPS students participating in specialized programs in the Accessible Technology Center. Specialized programs may include students with brain injuries, students injured in athletic competitions, and students with communication challenges.
Provide specialized noncredit instruction to students with Acquired Brain Injury (LRND 3 Acquired Brain Injury Intervention) to improve cognitive skills (attention, memory, reasoning, etc.) needed for academic and vocational goals.
Conduct cognitive/language/speech assessments and establish goals while identifying physical, cognitive and academic strategy, and technology needs of students with ABI.
Teach the noncredit class DSPS LRND 2 High Tech Assistive Technology/Academic Strategies providing academic interventions and support in the DSPS Accessible Technology Center.
May teach DSPS LRND 1 Clinical Speech Instruction
Deliver speech and language support services for students in credit classes.
Provide speech and language related instruction for DSPS students.
May provide screenings and accommodations for student athletes who suffer concussions.
Participate in DSPS efforts to support students with Autism.
Teach assigned courses in accordance with assigned course outline of record
Participate in curriculum development, program advisory board, learning outcome development and assessments, grants relevant to program, serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities
Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies
Collaborate effectively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to plan, develop, and execute related programs

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including online courses, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions

Minimum Qualifications/Education & Experience:

The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
REQUIRED:
1. Masters degree or higher in Speech Pathology, Communicative Disorders, and licensure or eligibility for licensure within 90 days as a speech pathologist or audiologist by the Medical Board of California.
AND one (1) of the following:
2 A. Possession of a masters degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; and Fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to:
(A) Learning disabilities;
(B) Developmental disabilities;
Deaf and hearing impaired;
(D) Physical disabilities; or
(E) Adapted computer technology.
OR
2 B. A bachelors degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities.

2 C. An associate degree with one of the majors specified in #2A above; and four years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served.

2 D. The Equivalent (those who possess #1 may meet 2A, 2B, or 2C via equivalency, please complete equivalency determination supplemental form).
OR
2 E. California Community College credential, Valid for Life (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
AND
3. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Knowledge of accessible technology used by students with disabilities.
Experience working with individuals with speech disorders.

The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California drivers license.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 11-month contract position that begins in the 2017-18 academic year. This position begins Spring 2018. Any probationary faculty member who is hired for an assignment beginning after the end of a fall semester shall be given a first year employment contract covering the following three academic semesters.

Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.

It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources.
