Job Summary
The National Center for School Safety (NCSS) seeks a motivated and qualified candidate to lead communications and dissemination for NCSS. The Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with NCSS leadership to develop a communications strategy for NCSS. They will coordinate the communications team to implement the communications plan and develop engaging communication content and materials (e.g., website content, brochures, data briefs, blogs, newsletters, and social media). They will coordinate monthly webinars for the Center. The Communications Specialist will also work with the training team to assist with the development and dissemination of training materials.

Responsibilities*
  • Develop and implement external communications, marketing, and outreach strategies for the National Center for School Safety (NCSS) and affiliated projects, including communications through the NCSS website, social media, and media sharing sites
  • Coordinate monthly webinars on school safety topics and priorities
  • Write effective and engaging content for the website, social media, training materials, newsletters, blogs, brochures, and reports
  • Create and maintain a documentation system to track all communications-related activities and prepare reports on communications for research sponsors
  • Prepare and report on analytics metrics for continuous improvement of external communication efforts and campaigns

Required Qualifications*
Minimum required-Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field and 1-3 years experience in communications or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent writing skills. Demonstrated experience writing accessible and engaging online content for multiple platforms (e.g., blogs, social media). Experience with media relations and writing press releases. Ability to translate research findings for general audiences. Knowledge and experience with graphic design. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Interest in school safety, positive youth development or related fields.
