Job Summary:
California State University, Fullerton's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking a Chemistry Stockroom Technician (Instructional Support Technician II).

The Chemistry Stockroom Technician oversees the chemistry stockroom, keeping it current, organized, safe, and user friendly. Responsible for the accurate preparation of reagents for chemistry and biochemistry instructional laboratory experiments including standards, unknowns, and solutions. Provides materials and support for instructional and research laboratories in a timely fashion while according to directions provided by faculty and the Coordinator of Laboratory Instruction. Maintains an accurate chemical inventory by employing a modern computer-based record keeping system, including gases, cryogenics, and dispense chemicals. Orders chemicals needed for lab classes. Trains and supervises between five and six student assistants to participate in reagent preparation, lab, and service window support. Assists the Coordinator of Laboratory Instruction in coordinating the use of specialty laboratory equipment and instrumentation for instructional labs. Informs Environmental Health and Safety of ongoing and new experiments, the types of chemical waste streams to be generated, and the amounts expected. Works with faculty, the director, and the Coordinator of Laboratory Instruction in reviewing and suggesting changes to improve current and new laboratory courses offered while taking into account safety, cost, and environmental impact. Prepares chemicals for safe dispensing and usage by students. Provides backup for the equipment stockroom and ordering of department supplies as needed. Assists the Coordinator of Laboratory Instruction in coordinating with technical staff and physical plant to provide support related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs. Assists the Chair and Vice-Chair with laboratory budget estimates and projections. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Three years or the equivalent of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline or in producing materials or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the assigned area. Completion of two years of college from an accredited college or university including 16 semester units in related courses involving the extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment used in the discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Completion of four years of college from an accredited college or university including 16 semester units in related courses involving the extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment used in the discipline may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Knowledge of the principles of performing support services. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum. Knowledge of the materials and supplies used in the curriculum and their uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities. Ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline. Ability to maintain records. Ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment. Possession of excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities to effectively train and manage laboratory assistants.
