Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The (Counselor) Articulation Officer position will initiate, develop, maintain and disseminate written, approved general education/breadth, major preparation, course-by-course, and transferable course articulation agreements with the California State University, University of California, California Independent Colleges and Universities and select out-of-state colleges and universities; develop and maintain a computerized articulation system; work closely with counselors and other faculty to review articulation issues and assist in resolving problems; work with appropriate faculty, department Chairs, Deans, Academic Senate and other appropriate committees on the campus to facilitate the development of articulation agreements Regular/contract counselors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the "open door" concept serving a diverse student population. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling;

OR

Current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as a Counselor;

OR

The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and proficiency in educational, career, and personal counseling at a community college, university or clinical setting.

Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling.

Ability to develop and maintain of effective collaborative working relationships with others.

Experience that demonstrates active participation in community and professional organizations and institutions of higher education.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a variety of computer software, databases and technology related to student and other educational services.

Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, including public speaking and complex reports.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

At least two years of counseling experience working in a community college or institution of higher education.

Knowledge of college curriculum development, the university transfer process from community colleges, and regulations, policies, and programs related to the role and responsibilities of an articulation officer.

Demonstrated skill in research, data analysis, and interpretation of complex, multi-layered data to draw conclusions.

Demonstrated skill in communicating respectfully and sensitively with people at various levels within organizations who are diverse in their cultures, language groups and abilities.
