Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Communications is an expert in persuasive language, skilled at writing for different audiences, and an unflagging partner to various fundraising teams in the Advancement Office. S/he primarily oversees all content creation for our Annual Giving efforts, including the writing, delegation, and editing of our annual fund appeals, information, and stewardship. This position also researches, interviews for, writes, and edits philanthropic proposals, case statements, and fundraising brochures that support Northeastern's efforts to cultivate the commitment of our donors and prospects. Further, the Associate Director's responsibilities include writing and editing compelling donor gift articles and short profiles for our alumni magazine and other vehicles.

Northeastern University has enjoyed tremendous momentum during the past decade, which is reflected in our exciting and fast-paced Advancement Division. To seize upon this momentum, our Annual Giving team requires a writer who can partner with them to craft creative initiatives for varied audiences at different levels of giving. Reporting to the Executive Director for Advancement Communications and managing the Communications Associate, the Associate Director is an essential collaborator and diplomat, working with Northeastern's gift officers, the annual fund team, and other communications team members, as well as senior-level administrators, faculty, and donors

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree or higher.
Five plus years of professional experience in nonprofit communications.
Fundraising writing experience required; appeal and proposal writing ideal.
Excellent writing, editing, and interviewing skills.
Experience in managing or mentoring others.
The ability to delegate and manage multiple initiatives at once.
Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to the position, including:
o mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and matters of style
o ability to write for various audiences
o ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing written materials, particularly in the realm of science, healthcare, and engineering
o knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication
