With a commitment to excellence and diversity, the Department of Education Studies (EDS) at the University of California, San Diego (http://eds.ucsd.edu) is accepting applications for one faculty position at either the Associate or early Full Professor level in Higher Education, starting July 1, 2018.



We invite applications from candidates who are experts in the field of higher education as it relates to access, college readiness and transition, outcomes, and student affairs, including but not limited to:



  • Student development theory

  • Assessment of student outcomes in higher education

  • Community colleges and systems

  • Leadership in higher education

  • CRT and its application in higher education

  • P-20 Policy and linkages across public education systems

  • Advancing an equity and social justice mission in higher education

  • Immigrant or undocumented students in higher education

  • Conducts research related to race/ethnicity, class, language, gender, sexual orientation, and/or first generation students




We welcome candidates from a range of methodological traditions.



The successful candidate will have a record of research and scholarly publications in higher education consistent with the appointment level, campus/departmental/university system leadership experience, and an exemplary record of teaching, service, and mentorship of doctoral and undergraduate students. The Department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to improving access and the conditions in higher education for underrepresented students.



Additional required qualifications include a doctoral degree in education or related field; and a national reputation and established record of generating extramural funding for research.



The candidate will teach and advise students in the Ph.D. program on Transforming Education in a Diverse Society and the Joint Doctoral Program (Ed.D.) in Education Leadership and will contribute to teaching in the undergraduate program.



The Department of Education Studies is an interdisciplinary environment focused on transforming education in diverse contexts; a goal, which we believe, requires a close integration of research and practice. The department is highly collaborative both in teaching and research and aims to attract new faculty who are interested in working with other faculty in the department, with others on campus, and with practitioners in the community in order to improve education for all students.





Salary: The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary will be based on University of California pay scales.



Closing date: Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
