The Department of Humanities and Arts (HUA) and the Professional Writing program invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor who will serve as the Director of Professional Writing position to begin August 2020. Candidates must have a doctorate in Professional/Technical Communication, Writing and Rhetoric, or related field.

We are searching for a director to provide vision for a growing program. The successful candidate will have a strong background and demonstrated excellence in professional and/or technical communication research and pedagogy. Desirable areas of expertise include the existing departmental strengths in medical and biomedical writing, technical writing and games, and cross-cultural communication. Additional desirable areas of expertise include professional communication as it articulates social justice and human rights; race, gender, and intersectionality studies; or international technical and professional communication.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and names and contact information for three references no later than Nov. 15, 2019. The cover letter should address the candidate's research, teaching, and administrative philosophy or vision for a Professional Writing program in a STEM university. It should also provide evidence of teaching excellence at the college level and potential for significant publication.

Writing samples and letters of recommendation will be requested when the committee schedules interviews from a short list. Consistent with the MLA timeline, we will conduct Skype interviews in late 2019 and on-campus interviews in early February 2020. Salary is competitive and includes an excellent fringe benefits package.

Writing faculty at WPI belong to a multi-disciplinary Humanities and Arts department. The project-based STEM curriculum requires extensive writing in junior and senior-year projects, which are often tied to the university's nationally-known global studies program. Faculty have the opportunity to direct junior-year projects at over 45 different project centers in 25 different countries.
