Responsibilities
This position provides lower-division academic advising for students pursuing majors within the College of Arts and Humanities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide current and prospective students with information about academic programs, policies and processes.
  • Assist students with developing educational plans and monitoring their progress toward their educational goals through individual and group advising session and online resources.
  • Assist students to overcome educational obstacles and refer them as needed to other university resources that can support their academic goals.
  • Assist with orientation of all new and transfer students pursuing majors in Arts and Humanities.
  • Assist with recruitment and program promotion events, meet with prospective students and family members.
  • Provide advising resources to online and distance learners, particularly in the metro area.
  • Assist in maintaining a collaborative environment in the College Advising office, sharing responsibilities with the Dean, Dean's Office staff, and college faculty and staff.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling & Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or other closely related field. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application)
  • Minimum of one year full time professional advising experience or experience in the provision of student support services directly related to academic advising (i.e. admissions, registrar, career services, orientation, teaching, etc.).

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills and ability to learn student record system as well as various programs and technologies to provide online advising and media to support advising.
  • Evidence of ability to obtain and interpret information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to provide classroom instruction relevant to academic advising.
