About the Position:
Information Technology continuously strives to produce a higher quality of services designed to meet the expectations of the campus community. We provide a leading-edge technology environment for students, faculty and staff to advance the University's mission, vision and goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Information Technology Consultant-Expert. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the supervision of the Director of Server and Data Center Infrastructure, the Information Technology Consultant-Expert performs day-to-day activities of maintaining campus-wide systems that are highly critical to campus operations. Builds, manages and monitors the systems on premises and the cloud for campus constituents, including but not limiting to Active Directory Domain Controllers, Authentication server such as ADFS, O365 Platform, Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), MS SQL cluster servers and replications, web services, campus wide distributed file system (DFS) server, campus wide unify communication servers such as Skype for Business, campus wide virtual infrastructure hosts (VMware), storage area network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS). Serves as the campus contact for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate and distribution. Quickly troubleshoots and brings the critical systems back online. Reviews and documents any hardware and software failed incidents, business processes within the department and campus and protocols. Evaluates test environments of hardware and software configurations to ensure requirements are met before tasks toward production can be performed.

Builds and maintains disaster recovery and coordinates tasks to the deployment of production servers with the Information Security Office to ensure that all security and compliance issues are met. Meets and negotiates with vendors and technology providers along with Information Technology (IT) management to obtain the best price for hardware and software solutions. Acts as a liaison with other groups in IT to provide and exchange technical solutions and enhance IT services provided to the campus community. Provides consulting services and recommendations to other departments on campus regarding the choosing of technology and products and ensuring that they can co-exist or interface with IT and other existing systems. Works with the Information Security Officer to enforce appropriate security measures and change access on the critical servers and services and encrypt all sensitive information as mandated by the CSU. Reviews and updates documentations to meet the requirements and mandates by the Office of Information Security. Assists the director with adapting new solutions and enhancing IT services by taking pro-active actions in order to achieve 100% critical systems uptime. On call 24-7, and ready to make swift decisions.

Works with cloud services in a variety of distributed computing environments. Independently implements infrastructure automation, scripting (E.g., shell, python, ruby, powershell). Utilization of infrastructure as code tools such as: Azure Resource Manager and system configuration tools. Knowledge and understanding of cloud infrastructure. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field and five years of relevant full-time experience. Twelve years of relevant full-time experience or an associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and seven years of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for the previously listed education and experience requirement.

Advanced knowledge of the work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of the advanced principles and theories. Ability to integrate and apply work related knowledge to achieve innovative solutions, anticipate the impact of problems and solutions on other systems, investigate and research new systems and technologies, and develop complex information technology systems and solutions. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective. Ability to explore, conceive, and implement solutions and ideas in new ways. Ability to predict and anticipate problems and create proactive solutions. Demonstrated communication expertise using persuasion and negotiation. Ability to lead technical team efforts and assess skills within a team and work to build on individual strengths to maximize team results. Ability to teach and transfer knowledge and skills to others.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage (v6.7) certification. Experience in Azure and AWS cloud environment (AWS or Azure Certified professional).


Special Working Conditions:
Position requires the use of a state vehicle to transport to events and visit campuses and other outside constituents at variable hours.
