SIMULATION TECHNOLOGIST (Instructional Support Technician II)

The Simulation Technologist performs technical and non-technical activities and operates systems used to simulate human injuries, diseases and deformities for the purpose of providing student learning activities focused on diagnosis and treatment. Incumbent will operate and maintain computers, peripherals, audio visual systems, diagnostic or therapeutic medical instruments and other equipment, including simulation mannequins. This position provides instructional support and serves as a resource to faculty, staff and students in all aspects of simulation materials, equipment, and technology utilized at the Simulation Center. Incumbent will work under direct supervision and receive training on the simulation equipment and software applications. Supervision will move to general after successful completion of training period. The Rural Northern California Simulation Center (Rural SimCenter) provides services to the School of Nursing and local hospitals for education of nurses and other healthcare professionals. Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

- Incumbent is expected to be prepared to obtain the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Operation Specialist Certification, after two years of successful performance in this position.
- The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.
This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside and outside the Simulation Center and class rooms. Requires the need to regularly position self to provide materials, supplies and equipment, e.g. lifting, moving, carrying, transporting, forward reaching, reaching above shoulder level, grasping, fine and gross manipulation using hands, bending, stooping, crouching, entering closets and enclosed spaces. Requires the need to travel across campus to other office buildings. Sufficient physical mobility and ability to work with large mannequins and hospital type equipment; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull moderate amounts of weight. Normal vision and hearing ability required as well as verbal communication ability.
This position works in the CSU, Chico Simulation Center which is a higher education training facility and includes computers, medical equipment, simulation equipment, audio visual equipment, and class room technologies. Some hazardous medical materials and equipment are in use, such as a defibrillator. Incumbent is required to observe and use safe working practices including removal of hazardous materials (training will be provided). Position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, faculty, staff and the public, throughout the campus and the community.
