Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator-Tutoring Center is a full-time, classified position at South Seattle College. This position will assist the Director of Tutoring with the development, implementation and coordination of all programs including the selection, hiring, training, and supervision of peer, graduate, and professional tutors for tutoring center operations. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations and function, including administrative duties.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE and is subject to union shop provisions.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide information and guidance to students, staff, program participants and the public regarding program services and policies.
  • Establish and maintain an approachable and welcoming office environment while greeting students, staff, and faculty.
  • Assist with management of tutors, including recruitment, hiring paperwork, orientation, training, and scheduling.
  • Assist with development of tutor-training programs, including workshops, tutor handbooks, tutor meetings, and community networking.
  • Assist with production and dissemination of all informational and marketing materials to ensure accuracy and increase students' use of tutoring services.
  • Solicit and evaluate students' tutor requests for group tutoring; assign tutors appropriately.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual statistics and reports; create and maintain student database for tracking student retention and services provided.
  • Assist with research and implementation of best practices in academic support.
  • Represent the program at professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor and control resources such as office supplies needed within the department.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, tutors, and program participants.
  • Contribute to a safe, bias-free educational, working environment by participating in all drills and training established by the college.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.


Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in human services, sociology, psychology, or closely related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail
  • Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills; ability to work as a team member and independently; ability to meet goals and deadlines in a fast passed environment
  • Experience working in educational environment
  • Strong computer and software skills
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with general public, faculty, staff, students and others of various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities in a respectful and professional manner
