About the Position:

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Information Security Consultant (Information Technology Consultant-Foundation). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision of Information Security Officer, the Information Security Consultant contributes to campus information security strategy and California State University policy and standards. Responsible for moderately complex security issues including digital forensics, vulnerability management, risk and security assessment, log analysis, configuration management, incident response, and inventory management. Responsible for promoting information security efforts to develop campus-wide security projects to reduce risk, develop Information Technology operational and technical controls, promote information security policy and compliance to improve IT security posture. Performs detailed analysis on security-related events and provides clear and concise reporting to management. Participates in IT, information security risk and compliance assessments, audits, gap analyses, and remediation. Resolves daily issues of a complex scope that impact various teams and overall business objectives. Demonstrated commitment to training, self-study and maintaining proficiency in the technical cyber security domain. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field or four years relevant full-time experience or an associate's degree in a related field with two years of relevant full-time experience.

Basic knowledge of the specialty work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of general principals and terminology. Demonstrated understanding of the standard technology and systems in place with the capability of supporting and operating the technology. Ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and refer to appropriate party for resolution. Ability to solve problems where precedents exist, and acquire knowledge in related specialties. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of network security, encryption methods, application development platforms, technologies, security architecture and overall information security concepts. Working understanding of information security risk management and performing information security risk assessments.
Familiarity with tools: EnCase, Forensic Toolkit, Autopsy/Sleuthkit, Wireshark, tcpdump, tshark. Perform all other duties as assigned Possess a basic knowledge of IT security and various frameworks such as ISO-27000, CobiT, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS, HIPAA, FERPA, SOC2 and SSAE16.
