Position Summary


Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking qualified faculty for a full-time, tenure-track position in Education and Early Childhood. This position is part of the Professional Studies Division. We are looking for a person prepared and interested in teaching a variety of education and early childhood education courses. Teaching assignments are based on college needs and include day, evening, weekend and on or off campus assignments.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:



  • Teach a variety of Education and Early Childhood Education courses, which may include evening, hybrid and online classes.

  • Develop and revise departmental curriculum to meet state and local standards.

  • Engage in assessment activities to meet the requirements of the College, program, and course-level student evaluation.

  • Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.

  • Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

  • Advise students; assist students in planning an educational program and in selecting courses, and when necessary refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.

  • Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters and/or college related concerns.

  • Build relationships in Early Childhood Education settings and K-12 schools that result in high-quality partnerships and field placements.

  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.

  • Provide advice and support for early childhood and education faculty in conjunction with the department.

  • Maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, administration and staff.

  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct.

  • Other duties as agreed to with division chair or administrator.




Minimum & Desirable Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:



  • A Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or Education from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Five (5) years' work experience in an Early Childhood Education developmental program with children birth-8 years of age and/or Education field (teaching grades PreK-8).

  • Teacher certification in K-12 education and/or closely related K-12 public school experience.

  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (community college, university, or dual enrollment).

  • Experience working with students from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as first-generation college.



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience in Early Childhood Education, Education, or related course work at the higher education/college level.

  • Evidence of leadership in the field of Early Childhood Education and/or Education.

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of NAEYC Standards and Washington State K-12 Learning Standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement curriculum and deliver instruction in multiple modes (online, hybrid, and face-to-face).

  • Experience in student advising and/or career counseling.

  • Experience in placement and supervision of students in practicum settings in both early childhood and public school settings.

  • Demonstrated multicultural experience (fluency in other languages, work experience, or literary/cultural/travel experience) which add breadth and depth to teaching.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
