Job Summary

Counseling & Psychiatric Services at the University of Colorado Boulder is searching for 3 Psychology Practicum Trainees! The Practicum training program is for students currently enrolled in a doctoral (PhD or PsyD) program in counseling or clinical psychology, who have some experience in providing direct psychotherapy services. The position provides direct clinical services to students attending the University of Colorado Boulder. Services include individual psychotherapy, initial intake assessments, and triage/screens. Additional clinical services may include crisis intervention, group co-facilitation, workshops, couples' psychotherapy, and outreach. The position is a part-time position (16 to 20 hours per week) and a nine-month commitment (early August - early May). Training for practicum staff in training includes regular seminars on specific mental health topics and 60 minutes of weekly individual supervision. Training on the provision of telehealth services will be provided during orientation.
CAPS provides psychotherapy services in a brief therapy model in a multidisciplinary setting, thus we are looking for Trainees who can thrive as part of a multidisciplinary team and be comfortable managing a full clinical schedule..

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clinical:Provide individual psychotherapy and initial therapy assessments, and conduct screening services. Additional clinical opportunities exist to co-facilitate groups and workshops, provide case management, participate in outreach, and gain exposure to crisis intervention.Receiving Supervision:Receive a minimum of 1 hour of individual supervision each week. Additional supervision is provided for specific training experiences (e.g. 30 minutes supervision for group facilitation).
Administrative/Support:
Complete paperwork/documentation and other administrative duties, attend all-staff meetings/trainings, and meet weekly with the Psychology Practicum Coordinator.
Didactic Training:
Participate in a weekly multidisciplinary seminar of 2 hours per week.

What You Should Know

  • These positions offer a hybrid work modality.
  • These are 9-month positions (August 3, 2026 - May 7, 2027) that will work 16-20 hours per week during the academic school year.
  • Trainees are not expected to work during CU Boulder breaks (fall, spring, and winter breaks).

What We Require

  • Current enrollment in a doctoral (PhD or PsyD) program in counseling or clinical psychology.
  • Completion of at least two semesters of supervised practicum experiences by the beginning of the fall semester when the practicum training program commences.
  • Applicants are required to be in good standing at their current psychology graduate program.

  • Ability to work in clinical and outreach settings with diverse populations and with a college student population.
  • Phenomenal oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent social skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with other CAPS providers and campus partners.
