Job Description:

Facilities Engineering at Madison College is seeking a Maintenance Associate to join our Facilities team and support building operations across the entire district. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs of a routine, non-complex nature. Success in this role includes conducting scheduled inspections, completing preventative maintenance tasks, and assisting higher-level mechanics, plumbers, and electricians with repair work.

The Maintenance Associate responsibilities also include troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment, as well as monitoring automated control systems. This position supports institutional goals by ensuring a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Position Details:

Schedule - This is a second shift position scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:00pm - 10:00pm. The position also includes being on call one weekend every three weeks.

Shift Differential Pay - This position will earn a $1.00 per hour shift differential for all hours worked between 6:00pm and 6:00am, as well as for any hours worked on Sundays.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform general preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance tasks on building mechanical systems such as heating, ventilating, exhaust, electrical, fire safety, and plumbing equipment.
  • Clean, inspect, grease, and replace filters for heating and ventilating equipment. Clean and inspect heating and cooling coils, drain pans, fan blades, and casings on HVAC equipment. Clean and inspect condenser coils and cooling towers for air conditioning equipment. Clean and inspect refrigerated equipment such as water coolers and ice machines. Clean, inspect and maintain humidifiers.
  • Inspect and provide preventative maintenance service to air compressors, water pumps, vacuum pumps and monitor associated control systems.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems by troubleshooting and replacing components of lighting, motors, fire alarms, clocks, door systems and building power circuits.
  • Conduct safety and emergency system inspections by testing power generation, and fire protection equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Fabricate and repair building fixtures and equipment by constructing or modifying components from metal, plastic and wood to support facility needs.
  • Perform welding, brazing and soldering to repair or modify piping and structural components as needed.
  • Monitor and adjust direct digital control systems for HVAC and lighting system to optimize building efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including troubleshooting, general repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics and shop drawings.
  • Skill in troubleshooting facility equipment.
  • Ability to inspect, maintain and repair mechanical systems.
  • Ability to fabricate and modify basic building fixtures, furniture and equipment using metal, plastic and wood materials.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license at the time of hire. Prior to hire, the college will verify with its insurance carrier that the candidate's driving record meets the requirements for coverage under the college's motor vehicle insurance policy. The employee must maintain a driving record that continues to comply with these requirements throughout employment.
