Job Summary:

The Department of Environmental Science invites applications for an Assistant Professor with an emphasis in Geospatial Technologies as applied to environmental science starting in August 2019. This position will be connected to the University of San Francisco's Geospatial Analysis Laboratory (GsAL) which offers a certificate program in Geospatial Information Science (see www.usfca.edu/arts-sciences/research/geospatial-analysis-lab for more information).

We are seeking a Geographic Information Scientist with expertise in one or more of the following research areas: remote sensing, geovisualization, big data, machine learning, web mapping, geospatial programming, LiDAR, Drone Technologies, and/or spatial modeling and analysis. Other computational/quantitative Geospatial research areas may also be considered.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching responsibilities would include courses in GIS, remote sensing and GIS programming and depending on the successful candidates area of expertise could include cartography/geovisualization, big data/cloud computing, LIDAR or drone technologies at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The successful candidate would be expected to establish a research program focused on the integration of geospatial technologies with environmental science. Possible applied GIS research areas include environmental analysis, natural hazards, smart cities and sustainability, air/water quality and pollution among other topics associated with the application of Geospatial Science to environmental issues from local to global scales.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. by August 31, 2019 in an environmental science-related field with extensive experience in a geospatial science area or in a geospatial science with substantial application in an environmental science-related field. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of successful teaching and/or supervision of students and/or employees from all backgrounds (including first-generation college students, low-income students, racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ, etc.) and an interest in contributing to the GsAL certificate curricular offerings, and research portfolio in ways that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion; applicants are encouraged to address these topics in the letter of application.
